License and ID tag - for the city where you live. Collar - make sure it fits your dog properly: not chocking them, but tight enough to not slide off Leash - usually 4-6 feet; check local laws before getting a retractable or longer leash. Harness - pulling on a dog's collar may damage their thyroid gland and/or choke them; harnesses are more gently on their body and no-pull harnesses are a viable option when needed. Car harness - keeps Fido safe while not having to stay in a crate. Crate - get a crate appropriate for the size of your dog and don't use it for punishment; many dogs love their crates and are happy to sleep in them at night. Respect your dog's space in the crate - don't let other dogs or people crawl into the dog crate. Flea and Tick medicine - be proactive about keeping your pet flea and tick free. Use reliable brand names like Frontline or Advantix. Dog bed - one or many! Dry Food - get food appropriate for the age and breed of the dog. Bowls - one for food, one for water. If you have multiple pets, they may like their own bowls (especially for food) so they don't feel the other pet is stealing "their" food from the single bowl. Treats - for fun and for training! Bones - lost of dogs love to chew on things - save your couch - buy a raw-hide bone. Toys - tennis balls, plush toys, tug-rope... Doggie waste bags - to clean up your yard or for walks around town. Cleaning supplies for accidents - because that happens. Brush - keep Bingo feelin' and lookin' good! Shampoo - DOG shampoo. Nail clippers - if you plan to clip them yourself. Pet shower attachment - if needed.
