Shirley was found panting on the side of Palm Ave. in Northern San Bernardino on a hot June day - it was well over 100 degrees. She and her friend (sister?) Laverne found a spot in the shade and lay there for two to three days as neighbors frantically tried to help, leaving food and water, and posting urgent pleas for rescue.
Neither were obvious street dogs - they were walking right in front of cars, and did not seem street savvy at all. They were scared when people tried to approach, but we finally won them over with hot dogs. Poor Shirley had obviously just had babies and was full of milk - her teats almost touching the ground. We searched everywhere for any sign of pups, but there were none to be found. :(
Since then, Shirley has lived in a loving foster home with Laverne. From the moment we found her, she accepted us immediately. Her milk has pretty much dried up, and she will be spayed as soon as it is safe, and then available for adoption around July 18th.
Shirley is wonderful and gentle with kids, other dogs, cats - everyone. She would make an excellent addition to any family. She is the PERFECT indoor cuddle bug!
