Pepper was living off the 210 Freeway at the Pepper exit, hiding in a storm drain. A man sent us a video of Pepper limping -- he pulled over on his way to work and saw him on the side if the Freeway and knew he had to do something. We drove over and found Pepper in a lot of pain due to a broken leg and deep laceration on his back (see his rescue video). We brought this sweet boy to our vet who estimated he is still a puppy, about 8-10 mos old, and they did surgery on his back to clean out his wound and stitch it up. His broken leg was a very clean break that has since healed after 6 weeks of strict crate rest.

And now our boy is ready for adoption. He is shy after his ordeal, but he warms up to people who sit with him and let him sniff and meet on his terms. He has never nipped at anyone, he just keeps his distance at first. He would probably be spooked by rambunctious toddlers, so a family with well-trained children 12 and up would be great for Pepper.

He is silly, playful, and affectionate and becomes very attached to his chosen human. So far he has no reaction to other dogs but has been on strict crate rest due to his leg. More dog tests to come but we have no concerns he will do fine with other friendly dogs. He woukd do best with another energetic large breed.
