About Hope

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • General Color: Black with Brown, Red, Golden, Orange or Chestnut
  • Current Age: 6 Years 6 Months (best estimate)
Hope is a beautiful miniature dachshund with special needs.  She is blind but she doesn't let that stop her. This spunky 10 month old, 6.9lb beauty is looking for a special person/family to be her forever family.
Hope came to Cause after she was given to our vet due to being blind and having a grade 1 heart murmur. What we thought was a simple heart murmur turned out to be much more serious = Patent Ductus Arteriosus (PDA). PDA is a condition in which blood is diverted in abnormal patterns in the heart. This defect was corrected in an open heart surgery in August. Hope has recuperated nicely and is expected to have a normal heart and life span. Hope will probably require a special diet for life. She is currently on special vet food Prescription Diet Digestive Care i/d with a probiotic sprinkled on top.
Hope would do best with someone who has some experience with blind dogs and is home most of the day. Now you're probably asking is Hope potty trained? Well Hope can find lavendar scented potties pads most of the time and go potty on them. But since she is blind she sometimes misses or walks in it. She can easily find her way outside to potty when the door is kept open and come back inside. Hope has been living in a foster home with a 20lb, 50lb and 85lb dogs. She hears them coming and goes the opposite way. She's also been really good with the 2 cats and likes to lick them. She is a puppy still and likes to chew on bones and has a stuffed animal she likes to throw around. Hope loves to cuddle and share your bed. She says that you won't even know she's on your bed while you sleep. If you think you can make Hope part of your family please fill out an application at:
