1-year old Homer is still very much a puppy! He wound up as a stray at San Bernardino City shelter with a broken femur and he needed FHO surgery, a surgery the shelter cannot cover. So We got him out, had his surgery done, and after recuperation time and his stitches out, now he is running around with our other frisky Chihuahuas having a ball!
He loves everyone he meets, is great with kids and all humans, and he loves small dogs. She does not seem to appreciate big dogs very much — his injury could have been due to a dog attack — he loves to run around and play with dogs his size.
FHO surgery basically removes the ball from the hip joint, and then muscles and tendons take over the role of the removed hip ball. It’s a very common surgery in dogs and is a shorter recovery. Because walking in mild exercise is good to build that strength up in the hip. Without any delicate pins and needles in there to put something back together, dogs live the rest of their lives with few indications the surgery ever took place.
