Talk about an amazing survivor story - Annika was rescued from Devore shelter at around 6-8 months old. She was so vibrant and happy the day we pulled her, she just hugged foster mom Jordan in the parking lot and smothered her with kisses. 

A week later Jordan noticed her lack of energy. She could only last a few blocks on walks and couldn't keep up with foster mom's senior labs. Several vet visits and specialists later, we learned Annika had a heart condition. UC Davis' Cardiology Department in San Diego helped us pinpoint Annika's needs and they performed surgery to correct a leaky valve. Immediately, Annika turned into the vivacious, energetic GSD puppy she was always meant to be! She now goes on hikes with Jordan and we learned she loves to swim. Her surgeons say she should go on to live a normal life with a normal life span from here on out. 

We're looking for a special, active family that will be able to periodically visit her surgeons for checkups in San Diego (all covered by rescue) and continue hiking, training, and loving Annika.
